Plant Love began at the height of Covid-19 and is an excellent example of a young entrepreneur’s grit, determination and resilience leading to success.
Prior to the pandemic Michell was primarily a pastry chef but, because of Covid-19, sales fell sharply and she could no longer go out to sell her products. At the same time she also learned she was pregnant and desperately needed a solution where she could work from home and be with her children.
A friend who loved plants gave Michell some excess ones to sell and Michell thought of doing it through her networks, sending them via couriers and cargo companies – they grew very popular and from there, they started selling and manufacturing pots too.
Moving from strength to strength Plant Love now sells a wide variety of plants direct to consumers such as succulents and anthuriums, amongst many more. They also make ecological souvenirs for all kinds of occasions, manufacture pots and sell plants wholesale too. Plant Love now has orders from across several different provinces of Peru.
Michell now has three employees who have monthly incomes of up to 6,000 soles (over $1,500 – the average monthly income in Peru is closer to 2,000 soles). Michell would love to pass on her success and help others in similar situations and in the future, she sees herself making entrepreneurship kits for single mothers and people with disabilities – the kit would have a piece of furniture, two boxes of plants and 100 pots to help start their business.
